The Rural Learning Center

Chartreuse is assisting Koch Hazard Architects with the material research for a learning and demonstration center at the Rural Learning Center in Howard, SD.

Chartreuse is identifying photovoltaic, wind, and green roof products, developing details, and researching experimental construction techniques for RLC breakout spaces including straw bale, rammed earth, cordwood, and compressed earth block construction.  Chartreuse has also catalogued salvageable materials from the Howard Legion Hall.

Chartreuse created a series of boards demonstrating how the Rural Learning Center is being designed as a green building and how it will be potentially receiving LEED credits. The boards were on display at the RLC Groundbreaking Ceremony in Howard, SD. Also, a series of boards were created to display alternative materials to be used at the RLC and were on display at the Sioux Falls Green-ival and Harvest Festival.
